I love helping people, companies and organizations communicate their messages effectively. I have nearly 20 years experience in all aspects of public relations and marketing communications, as well as writing for business, consumer and internal audiences. I work with organizations of all types and sizes to increase awareness of their brands and achieve their communications and media relations objectives. When I’m not busy pitching the media, I work as a freelance writer for area media outlets including the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, DesignSTL magazine, Town & Style, Missouri Life magazine, STLParent.com and KDHX.org.
I began my public relations career at the St. Louis office of Weber Shandwick Worldwide – one of the world’s largest public relations agencies – where I spent four years on the PR front lines, honing my skills with the national media on such major accounts as Miller Brewing Company, The Scotts Company lawn and garden manufacturers, Nestle Purina and the Federal Reserve Bank, among others.
I then spent two years delving into the rewarding world of non-profit communications, managing all marketing and public relations for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Gateway Area Chapter, where I developed strong relationships with the local and regional media through large-scale fundraising events and client programs. I then returned to the agency world as an Account Supervisor in the public relations division of Adamson Advertising, focusing on both business-to-business and consumer PR accounts, as well as new business efforts. I also served as PR Manager for Maritz, Inc., overseeing PR initiatives for multiple business units of this $1.27 billion revenue private company.
In 1997, I decided to strike out on my own as an independent public relations specialist and immediately embarked on what was probably the highlight of my career – an unforgettable six-month stint serving as Media and Communications Manager for Gunther von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS 3 exhibition during its record-breaking first run at the Saint Louis Science Center.
Over the past decade, I have continued to build strong relationships with the local media working with St. Louis companies, small businesses and non-profit organizations, as well as national brands. Some of my specialty areas include event promotion, entertainment, grand openings and product launches. When I’m not working, I am focused on my most important job – being a mom to two beautiful daughters.
I am a proud graduate of the University of Missouri – Columbia (GO TIGERS!), where I completed my bachelor’s degree in English/Creative Writing and currently serve on the English Department’s Alumni English Leaders Board. In 2003, I completed my master’s degree in Media Communications – Public Relations at Webster University in St. Louis, graduating with honors. I regularly re-visit Webster to guest lecture in graduate media communications classes.
